A Cometto SPMT goes over water

Some people will be rubbing their eyes on the work site of the Crist shipyard in Gdynia, Poland.

The Cometto SPMT combination from the German company Krebs Korrosionsschutz GmbH extended several metres above the edge of the ship. But why?

Special transports earn their name above all because they often encounter special situations during their course. That was also the case with this demanding project, in which a ship section weighing 1,140 tonnes and measuring 32 metres in length and 42 metres in width was transported from its place of production on a barge.

36 self-propelled modular axle lines of the Cometto MSPE and two power pack units, each with a driving force of 202 KW, took on the task in an open group. The special feature here was that the barge was narrower than the SMPT combination was long.

What was the experienced SPMT driver Steffen Klückmann's solution to this challenge?

As a declared specialist he knew what to do and lifted three axle lines, which then stood together with the power pack above the edge of the ship. Not an everyday sight: a virtually floating SPMT that makes a good figure above water, too.
