Another Cometto self-propelled unit has entered service at a bridge manufacturer and will in future play a central role in internal plant logistics for the production of heavy steel structures.
In January 2026, a 4-axle Eco1000 was delivered to Aelterman in Ghent, Belgium. The delivery followed intensive technical discussions regarding the configuration of the electronically steered self-propelled transporter.
“Our requirements for the Eco1000 went beyond the standard 4-axle vehicle: a wider frame and a longer loading platform while maintaining the same payload of 170 tonnes. Our specifications were implemented professionally,” reports Tom Stroo, Production Manager at Aelterman.
Eco1000 Meets All Expectations
The delivered Eco1000 features a width of 2.99 metres instead of the standard 2.43 metres, resulting in an additional 38 percent increase in stability, adds Joachim Kolb, Sales Manager at Cometto. Furthermore, the chassis of a 6-axle vehicle was selected but equipped with only 4 axles in order to optimally meet the payload requirements.
“We are delighted to have received an absolutely suitable solution that fully meets our expectations,” Tom Stroo continues. “I would particularly like to emphasize that the highly sought-after vehicle arrived at our plant on time and immediately began operation. We are proud to be part of the Cometto family – propelled to the MAX!”
Aelterman was founded in 1952. Since 1989, the company has been producing bridges for projects in the Benelux countries, Germany and France. Since 2025, Aelterman has been part of the Artes Group.
