State Service from Ingleside, Texas has been a Cometto customer in the SPMT sector since 2013. “Since the beginning of our collaboration, the fleet has been continuously expanded to meet the increasing payload requirements of our customers,” explains Joachim Kolb, Sales Manager at Cometto.
Most recently, in January 2026, four 6-axle SPMT units, six 8.40-meter spacers, and one 368 kW Power Pack Unit were delivered to the U.S. company. This brings State Service’s fleet to a total of 70 SPMT axle lines and six spacers, powered by four Power Pack Units.
Deliver – Unpack – Combine – Program – Drive
“That’s exactly how it worked for us,” reports Ted Little, Transport Manager at State Service. “The new self-propelled vehicles arrived at our Ingleside facility on a Tuesday. Just one day later, we had assembled two configurations with 18 axle lines each – including coupled spacer and Power Pack. This allowed us to keep to our tight schedule and carry out the first transports as planned on Friday.”
Operating in an open compound, the Cometto SPMTs first transported the topside structure of an offshore work platform between four cranes. After lifting, the base structure was positioned underneath with millimeter precision, enabling the topside to be accurately set down and subsequently welded into place. “That’s exactly what we mean by Simply Plug and Play,” says Ted Little. “The equipment works reliably and safely. In the best sense of the word, we are … propelled to the MAX.”
Since 1976, State Service has been delivering innovative steel construction solutions for companies in the energy sector. The production facility is strategically located along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway in Ingleside, Texas. Thanks to its own pier, offshore modules can be loaded directly onto barges. Direct access to the Gulf of America ensures short transit routes to offshore installations – a clear location advantage for customers in the energy industry.
