108 tons comes in quietly

Creative solutions were called for when Krebs Korrosionsschutz from Rostock took care of the transport of a conditioner.

The route profile included several special hurdles where the protection of the subsoil stood in the foreground. However, experts always have an ace up their sleeve.

Krebs is not only well known for outstanding coating work, but has also gained a wealth of experience in recent years with regard to heavy duty transport on the works site and on public roads. The industry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern knows: when things get tight and tricky, it's best to call 007 – and that doesn't mean James Bond, but rather the last digits of managing director Detlef Krebs' mobile phone number.

That was also the case with this project, in which a conditioner weighing 108 tonnes stood at the ready in Krebs' outdoor storage area. Here, the upper and lower shells delivered from Poland had already been attached and fully assembled in advance. Krebs' existing mobile crane fleet made this possible.

Conditioner is used for oil production

Sitting on one of these cranes was the operator Oliver Röhr, who grabbed the load and placed it precisely on the self-propelled heavy load modules. The 12-axle electronically steered unit with a 202 kW power pack had been assembled beforehand by SPMT driver Stefan Krüger and his team and positioned in front of the loading place right on schedule.

Once everything was ready, the journey began to the unloading place at Power Oil, a subsidiary of Getreide AG. This company produces oils –  and not only colza oil for the manufacture of biodiesel, but also edible oils, which are produced in one of Germany's largest oil mills.

Drive-over system to protect the subsoil

The first part of the SPMT's journey was on the public road. Along the way, a grass verge belonging to the Liebherr company had to be traversed. In order to protect pipelines and cables in the ground, however, this could not be subjected to loads.

Jörg Neuhäusel, the supervisor from Krebs, wasn't at a loss for a solution. He had already been in touch in advance with the Kahl company from Moers, from whom he had hired a drive-over system and over which the Cometto SPMT now drove with its valuable cargo.

The transport reached the green and yellow Power Oil building on schedule, where a lifting frame was waiting to lift the conditioner into its final position. And Jörg Neuhäusel reported to 007 – mission accomplished! What's next? … to be continued!
