The premiere project between Cometto and the Peters Group from Itterbeck shows how that can work specifically in the heavy haulage business.
The best ideas often come to you in the evening, because when the hectic daily business quietens down, company managers like to think about new projects. A highly interesting phone call took place in late January between the managing director of the Peters Group, Henri Maatmann, and Cometto Sales Manager Joachim Kolb. The basic subject of the conversation was Peters' short-term requirement for a self-propelled vehicle solution. And Cometto delivered it – virtually from scratch.
Eco1000 for tasks in steel construction
The Peters Stahlbau division is dedicated to one of the main areas of activity of the Peters Group, namely steel – a very much in demand raw material. More than 15,000 tonnes of steel are processed every year at the Emlichheim location. Among other things, the affiliated company Neuero Railtec turns the steel into railway bridges for the Deutsche Bundesbahn.
During the necessary work steps, the material has to be moved regularly, both in the production area and on the building site – and that is where the Peters Group had an urgent requirement. Cometto was able to provide a 4-axle Eco1000 self-propelled vehicle with a payload of 170 tons thanks to its stock offer.
First mission with a bridge component
Shortly after the order, Henri Maatmann and Jan Rapien from the Peters Group put the new self-propelled vehicle through its paces at the Cometto plant in Borgo San Dalmazzo. Two days later the vehicle was used for the first time at Neuero Railtec in Emlichheim, where bridge components for the Deutsche Bundesbahn had to be moved from the production area to the sandblasting area and into the paint booth. According to a Cometto instructor, it was a "perfect load" with which to introduce the Peters employees to "driving with a load" on account of the low centre of gravity.
And this first should just be the start of a successful connection. Since then, the Eco1000 has been performing reliably on a daily basis in the Peters Group, true to the customer's guiding principle: innovation and tradition powered by Peters … and now also "propelled to the MAX" by the Eco1000 from Cometto.
