Challenge completed!

Even a short distance can include many difficult passages to handle.

An experience that was made in Russia, where Cometto customer Spetstyazhavtotrans transported a 70m deisobutanizer column with a Cometto SPMT.

It was a real challenge, from planning to realization. The specialists of the LLC Design Bureau Spetstyazhproekt, as part of Spetstyazhavtotrans Group, delivered a deisobutanizer column from JSC "Volgogradneftemash" in Volgograd to the dock of UTKO JSC "Volgogradneftemash". This item became the highest column at the Taneko industrial complex. The heavyweight cargo weighed around 300 t and the dimensions were just as impressive with a length of 70.4 m long and a diameter of almost 5 m.

Turntables to master the task

"The considerable length of the load and the difficult conditions on the route - curves up to 90°, longitudinal slopes up to 12% and lateral slopes up to 5% - called for some extensive planning. It required the use of two turntables and two simultaneously moving self-propelled modular transporters type Cometto MSPE EVO2 with corresponding Power Packs Units. The taken technical decisions proved to be the main factor in the successful fulfillment of the task", reports Dmitry Zhukov, the head of the transportation project.

The deisobutanizer move was one of many successfully completed projects of the LLC Design Bureau Spetstyazhproekt. The Russian specialists are used to deploying the Cometto modules. Within the last five years, the company has transported over 100 units of oversized heavy equipment and installed 17 of them in the design position.

Cometto products offer reliable support

The steadfast quality of the transport units by Cometto reaps its rewards for Spetstyazhavtotrans. "In 2009, I decided to use Cometto's self-propelled modular technology in my work. It was based on reliability and quality considerations. I also remember how impressed I was by the project of transporting the space shuttle Endeavour on a specially designed Cometto platform", explains Sergey Tropin, General Director of LLC Design Bureau Spetstyazhproekt & Chairman of the Board of Spetstyazhavtotrans.

The specialists of Spetstyazhproekt Design Bureau LLC were the first in Russia to use Cometto self-propelled modular vehicles. Today a total of 198 axle lines are under constant operational management of the customer. "Our Cometto self-propelled modular vehicles MSPE are a reliable support in each of the company's projects," says Vadim Orlov, Director of Transportation and Equipment Installation Projects.
